You’ve probably read about the introduction of laws for e-scooters, scooters which are environmentally friendly & take less space than a motorcycle on the road. The government has proposed fees and regulations to the trending method of transportation, with a mixed response given by the public. As we go over the facts however, we come across some interesting facts, one of which is that fuel powered motorcycles have cheaper licences than the proposed e-scooters.

If you purchase an e-scooter, the proposed licence fee will add up to €25 whilst a motorcycle up to 125cc, which is anything but environmentally friendly, costs €10 on renewal. This means that if you purchase an e-scooter, you will pay 150% more in licence fees. This comes as quite a shock to the people of Malta as there has been recent uproars in terms of the environment and anything surrounding it. What’s even more shocking is the that, according to sources, insurance will be at a sky high benchmark of €200 on e-scooters. This means that in reality, if you only look at the purchasing side of things, you will spend more money to gain a more environmentally friendly vehicle.
