If you’re a fan of drag racing, you’ve almost definitely heard of the Mr Whippy Racing Team. Owned by the famous Joe Carabott, the team was in Santa Pod in the United Kingdom competing in the FIA European Drag Racing Championship curtain closer. Monty Bugeja, a former FIA champion, drove his way to a win in Santa Pod against Sandro Bellio. The race went down to the wire as Bugeja kept the foot the floor all the way to the line to snatch a win for Malta yet again on international soil while punching in a whopping time of 5.303 seconds at 268mph along the way.

Ironically, during his thrilling win, someone threw a coca cola can towards Monty’s car while he was travelling at speeds exceeding 350kph. The commentator was heard expressing his disgust, making the public aware that the person was being searched through facial recognition for his horrendous act.

Bugeja’s most famous season came in 2012, where he won Malta’s first ever FIA European Drag Racing Championship. That season went down in history for Maltese motorsport, with Bugeja bringing in Malta’s first ever FIA trophy home. To this date, this is an accomplishment which has only been done once more by fellow country man Chris Polidano in 2014 in the same class.
